Saturday Snapshot: Flugelhorn

My Cultural Encounters class took a tour of the Musical Instrument Museum on Thursday night and had fun looking at all of their exhibits.  This is a flugelhorn, which sounds like it should be from a Dr. Seuss book (see: hinkle-horn), but its origins are actually German (flugel = wing).

Salvation Army Flugelhorn

According to the exhibit tag, this is a “Class A” flugelhorn in B-flat, made by the Salvation Army in London at the turn of the 20th century.  The patina on it is just gorgeous – I wish I had brought my actual camera instead of just my phone.
