Sunday Sketch: Christmas Trees

I went with my dad to get a Christmas tree yesterday – I felt a little sorry for the crooked little trees that didn’t get picked until I realized that they were the only ones still alive.

Total time: about 1 hour.  Process video:

Sunday Speedpaint: Happy Holidays

These days it seems like Thanksgiving and Christmas are getting all tangled up in each other. Poor turkey. Inspired by these references of a turkey and a trapped chickadee (with a dash of Skyfall, I must admit).

Total time: about 1 hour.  Process video:

Sunday Speedpaint: Squirrel Archer

This is what happens when I think about squirrel warfare and Redwall in the same day – yesterday, when I uploaded the Saturday Snapshot and discussed re-reading Redwall with a friend over lunch.  I know it has issues, but I was moving pretty quickly along with this one.  The squirrel is a composite based off three reference photos: body, head, and hand.

Total time: about 1 hour.  Here is the process video:

Sunday Speedpaint: Veterans Day

Another Sunday, another speedpaint!  This one was a no-brainer since it’s Veterans Day here in the U.S. (Armistice and Remembrance Day elsewhere).  Eagle and flag were cribbed from two Google Search photos; I just doodled them together.

Total time: about 45 minutes.  Here is the process video:

Sunday Speedpaint: “Fall Back” Kitty

Since this weekend marks the end of Daylight Savings Time here in Washington, I decided to make a little cartoon-style picture for it.  The basic vignette of cat and clock is referenced from a photo I found via Google Images. I then colored/styled/messed around a bit to better fit the image to the theme.

This took about 45 minutes to complete, and my recorder worked fine capturing that.  I suspect the software I have only works up to about an hour’s worth of recording time, so I just need to be careful and watch the clock (ha, ha) whenever I use it – a surprisingly difficult thing to do in the middle of a creative process.  Windows Movie Maker, however, was even more horrid to use than usual, making me wonder if it might be time to actually buy some real video-editing software.  I don’t know if I edit videos frequently enough to justify the cost.

Anyway, here is the video of the process that made “Fall Back” Kitty:

Sunday Sketch: Twitter Trip

Too tired for a decent sketch/painting tonight, so I decided to doodle my tweets for the past two days of my road trip onto a map.  It combines the irrelevancy of Twitter, the randomness of a road trip, and the madness in my head into one crazy mess:
